The speed is lower than 56Kbps.  Do I really get a 56K service?

Yes, you do get a 56K service from Accsoft. However, 56K technology is about squeezing large amount of electronic signals down a normal telephone line, but in reality the net communication speed after the effects of overhead and physical conditions is at most 52Kbps.

In the Australian telephone network, the actual speed may vary between 42Kbps and 52Kbps depending on modem compatability, line condition and sometimes weather (worse in wet days).

According to some telecommunication analysts and industrial reports, some telephone lines are "combined" in the telephone exchange using a technology called PairGain™ before connecting to the telephone network, making them effectively sharing the capacity with each other.  This does not have a significant effect in voice communication but will affect modem speed making it much slower.  If you suspected that your line is on PairGain™ technology, please contact your telephone company.
