I got disconnected in the middle of a connection. Why?
- Have you checked your telephone line?
All Accsoft's modem lines are certified to be 56Kbps capable. However, if the modem speed is too high for your telephone line, the connection may be unstable. You can make a simple test by setting your modem to a lower speed (e.g. 38400, 19200 or even 9600). We are not asking you to put up with slow speed. It is only a test and if it becomes more stable at low speed, then the problem is likely to be related to telephone line quality (which may be affected by wet weather for example). In this case, please check with your telephone company.
- Do you have call waiting or other special features on your line?
If your telephone has the "call waiting" feature, when somebody rings you while you're on the net, the call waiting notification tone (the "beep" sound) will affect your connection. Please turn off the "call waiting" feature by pressing #43# on the telephone keypad before connecting, and turn it back on by pressing *43# after you disconnect.
- Are you sharing the modem line with other telephone sets?
If you have other telephone sets sharing the same telephone number (even in seperate rooms), they may impose signals to the line during recharging (some models of telephone sets recharge themselves regularly). These signals can affect your connection too. In this case, please unplug all telephone sets before connecting and plug them back after you disconnect.
- Are there any mobile phones near your modem?
If you have a mobile phone located near the modem or phone line (even in the same house), it may interfere with the connection. Please turn all mobile phones off while connecting to the Internet. If you do need to leave them on, please place them as far as possible away from the modem and phone line.
- Have you been connecting or left the line idle for too long?
If you are using our Untimed Access scheme, each connection can last up to 4 hours. After 4 hours, the line will drop, but you can re-connect straight away without any waiting time. Also, if you leave your line idle (i.e. no traffic on your modem line) for 30 minutes or longer, the line will drop as well. (Filling in a web form or typing an email message do not impose any traffic on the modem line.)
