Q1. I am a Vietnam veteran. I need financial help. I didn't get any Agent Orange money from the Vietnam Veterans Trust or I need more now. Can AVCAT help me?
A. No. Our constitution limits us to assistance to veterans' children and grandchildren for tertiary education. One of the ex-service organizations may however be able to help you through their welfare programs.
Q2. Is AVCAT under the control of DVA?
A. No. AVCAT is private organization whose members are the principal ex-service organizations. It is completely independent from DVA or any other government department. AVCAT however administers the Long Tan Bursary under contract and jointly agreed departmental guidelines.
Q3. How do I find out more information on the Australian share of the Agent Orange funds and how they were used?
A. The Vietnam Veterans Trust published annual reports from the start of its operation in 1989 until its closure. Those reports were distributed widely to, amongst other, the veteran community and should be available in libraries. If you cannot get them, AVCAT may be able to provide from its archives, for a fee of $50 per report plus postage.
